Area Manager (Operational Policy and Development) Kent Fire & Rescue Service

Location: Service Headquarters, Tovil, Kent. Full time: 42 Hours per week

This role will have the overall responsibility for the effective delivery of:-

  • Operational policies (implamentation of NOG)
  • Development of conventional and specialist operational capability
  • National resilience assets
  • Fire investigation
  • Fleet and equipment services, including PPE and work wear.

The successful candidate will be required to support the Service’s operational response, including human resource and financial activities, through the development and implementation of corporate policies and strategies.

Operationally the postholder will form part of the Service's Duty Area Manager rota providing Advanced and Strategic Incident Command (Level 4) reporting to the Duty Brigade Manager and providing guidance to the Duty Group Manager.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate developed leadership skills which promote a coaching and learning culture, with experience in partnership and stakeholder engagement, consultation, change management and budget management. Applications are invited from existing substantive Area Managers or Group Managers who can demonstrate they are ready for promotion.

The salary stated includes an allowance which will require you to be on call 24/7 one week in every four and participate in the Flexible Duty System rota.

Your typical working week will be 42 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role will be based at Service Headquarters in Maidstone.

The applicant will be expected to work flexibly which could mean working evenings and weekends and regular travel. A response car will be provided for operational and managerial duties whilst on duty for the Service.

This role is subject to security and police vetting checks which will be undertaken before an offer of employment can be confirmed. In addition applicants not already holding a current (recognised) Advanced/Level 4 Incident Command qualification will be required to pass an incident command assessment prior to confirmation of employment in this role.

Shortlisted applicants who do not already hold a current (recognised) Advanced/Level 4 Incident Command qualification will be required to attend an assessment on either the 7th or 8th January. An Interview selection day will then be held on either the 8th or 15th January 2020 at Service Headquarters in Maidstone.
