Salary: £94,651 per annum

As the Assistant Director for Response you will be a member of the Corporate Management Board with specific responsibility for setting the strategic direction of our operational response and service delivery of that response from all of our 55 fire stations.

As a member of the senior leadership team you will be required to sponsor a variety of corporate projects involving complex change issues requiring strategic leadership. The role will involve working at a national level, with partner agencies and the management of large, multi service, contracts.

Your focus will be to explore and develop ways of delivering a customer focused service through the use of innovative equipment, deployment of resources and different ways of working.

Our ideal candidate will currently hold a substantive position as an Area Manager or above and will have demonstrated significant experience of operational incident command.

The successful candidate will be required to perform the role of Duty Brigade Manager one week in four, and provide strategic incident command (level 4).

We are looking for an individual who has excellent communication skills and can work at all levels, including with partner agencies. They should have a proven track record of leading and managing transformational change projects; a commitment to creating an inclusive workplace; an ability to focus on providing excellent services to our customers; and a management approach which is people focused, using coaching and an inclusive style.

The role is subject to locally agreed terms and conditions and is located at our Headquarters in Maidstone, Kent.

The appointment of the candidate will subject to obtaining full security clearance.

The recruitment process will consist of two stages:
  • Stage one: An operational assessment which will take place (TBA) in November
  • Stage two: A one-day assessment centre on the 11 December 2019.
