About the role Cornwall Fire Rescue Community Safety Service Critical Control Centre are looking for a high performing, motivated and experienced Fire Control operator to join our team. Cornwall Fire Rescue Community Safety Service is a modern forward thinking high performing organization.

The Critical Control Centre facility is a purpose-built communication centre situated at the Tolvaddon Service Headquarters. The state of the art facilities at Tolvaddon, combined with our partnership with North Yorkshire provide a range of functions that includes mobilising of resources, information gathering and sharing and coordinating activities across both services.

Our control operators not only answer 999 Emergency calls, but also undertake public realm CCTV duties and handle other non-emergency calls, providing advice and support to our partners and the communities that we serve. Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service brings together a variety of functional teams that cover a diverse range of activities from firefighting, emergency planning, road safety, domestic violence, antisocial behaviour, alcohol and drug use.

Applications are invited from existing competent control operators with

  • experience of the Vision 4 Mobilising system,
  • a WM8 qualification,
  • the willingness to undertake a CCTV BIIAB Level 2 Qualifications and SIA licence

The position is offered in line with Grey book Terms and Condition of Employment.

Suitably qualified is defined as competent Fire Control Operators, with experience of the Vision 4 Mobilising system and a current WM8 qualification.

The role involves an operational element relating to the National Role map of a Fire Control Operator and therefore non-operational personnel, Green Book employees are not eligible to apply.

We are currently recruiting for one full time permanent position. However, all suitable applicants will be held on a list for three years and contacted if any other opportunities arise.

All applications will be made through the Cornwall County Council job advertising portal TALEO, which can be found on the Cornwall County Council website. Exact details of the application requirements will be found on TALEO also. The applicants will need to produce three pieces of evidence, a 4000 character (not word) supporting statement, 2000 character on fire control experience and 2000 characters on managerial experience.

The applicants will be asked 6 questions at the interview and will be required to give a 10 min presentation - title to be given if shortlisted for interview. The final date for applications is 20th January 2019 and will close at midnight on this date.

Interviews will be held 31st January, shortlisting will be undertaken on 21st & 22nd January with the interviews to be held on 31st January and 1st February 2019, dependant on the number of applicants.
