Having recently been awarded Emergency Service of the Year (2019) DFRS are pleased to invite applications from Station Managers seeking transfer within role, or substantive competent Wholetime Watch Managers who wish to progress to a Station Manager role.

Additionally, successful applicants will have a thorough understanding of national and local fire service issues and be able to demonstrate the ability to assimilate information and make sound and reasoned decisions.

As this is a demanding role, applicants will need to show a high level of personal resilience and an ability to work under pressure.

Applicant Essential Requirements:

Candidates will only be shortlisted if they can demonstrate the following:

For a permanent promotion, applicants must hold two of the papers listed below at IFE level 4 Certificate, one of which must be Fire Service Operations.

For a temporary promotion, applicants must hold one IFE Level 4 Certificate from any listed below.

  • Fire Engineering Science
  • Fire Safety
  • Fire Service Operations
  • Civil Emergency and Disaster Management
  • Fire Investigation

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service require successful candidates to complete the Management & Leadership Development Programme (MLDP) within 2 years of commencement. Applicants must either be sector competent in Incident Command at Level 2 or, if successful at final interview stage, will be required to demonstrate their ability to manage operational incidents by successfully completing a Level 2 incident command assessment prior to any offer of appointment.

In addition, applicants must successfully complete security vetting and be able to provide flexi-duty cover within Derbyshire. Please note that, due to the nature of security checks undertaken, applicants must have 3 years continuous residency in the UK up to the date of the application and Home Office approval for indefinite leave to remain within the UK.

A number of job related tests form part of the recruitment process and will be carried out during the assessment centre sessions, in addition to a final interview. Shortlisted applicants will be required to make themselves available for all aspects of the process.
