Facilities Manager, Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service

  • Salary:  £43,662- £48,530 per annum (Grade 7)
  • Location – Service Headquarters, Calcot, Reading
  • 37 hours per week
  • Excellent annual leave allowance of 29 days

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service provides prevention, protection and response services across the county of Berkshire. 12 wholetime and six on-call fire stations cover 486 square miles, from Langley in the East to Lambourn in the West. It serves a diverse cultural population of 911,400, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Responsible for managing the facilities team, the successful candidate will bring a wealth of experience within Facilities Management, involving the effective management and delivery of Hard & Soft services and minor capital refurbishment works in a busy and demanding customer focused environment. The role is very visible within the organisation and will require excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate at different levels of the organisation. The successful candidate will be a “doer” who is expected to lead, drive forward and deliver continuous improvement of the department.

The key focus of this role is:
  • Leadership and development of the Facilities Team
  • Management of Hard and Soft Services contracts
  • Responsible for Planned Preventative Maintenance and Reactive repairs
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance to applicable statutory legislation
  • Responsible for managing the department budgets
  • Ensuring minor capital works are completed on time and to budget
  • Providing excellent customer service
Key role requirements:
  • Relevant Professional Qualification (BIFM/IWFM)
  • Extensive experience of managing both Hard and Soft services
  • Experience of budget management
  • Experience of managing planned and reactive maintenance including statutory compliance
  • Experience of minor capital refurbishment work
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral
