Station Manager B, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (Flexible Duty System)

Various Locations Temporary and Substantive Opportunities

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is undergoing a significant period of change designed to improve efficiently, further empower managers and allow us to better support the communities we serve and we need exceptional people to help us do that.

We are therefore seeking applicants for our Station Manager pool. Applicants wishing to obtain substantive or temporary promotion, or transfer into a Station Manager role in any duty system in operation within ESFRS (except mobilising which will be advertised separately when appropriate), will only be able to do so through participation in this process.

This process will be used to determine suitability for appointment to Station Manager posts and those successful will access a pool of eligible staff.

Appointment from the pool will be based on suitability for particular posts, based on an appointments panel approach and not on rank order. This ensures the Service secures the right skills and experience in the right posts as we continue to build on our future.

ESFRS is an organisation committed to developing our people and creating opportunities to enable the continuation of professional development.

As well as accessing the ESFRS Station Manager Development Programme successful candidates will also continue to develop their potential through a range of tailored personal development opportunities in preparation for future roles within the Service.

To further support this aim it is anticipated that successful candidates will be given opportunities to undertake a variety of postings across the Station Manager cadre.

A condition of the appointment to the role of flexible duty Station Manager is that the post holder will provide operational cover from within the County. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer relocation expenses.

The pool process will take the form of an expression of interest, line managers’ report form and interview. All candidates must have either satisfactorily completed the Level 2 IToCP (or equivalent) or hold the Level 2 incident command qualification in order to be eligible to apply.

In order to be eligible for appointment into a substantive position, candidates must hold the Level 2 qualification (gained though the current Brigade).

We welcome applications from:
  • Substantive Station Managers
  • Substantive and Competent Watch Managers

All applicants must have evidence of maintaining their skills, knowledge and understanding in line with their Services’ recording of competence scheme. External applicants will be required to provide details of this at application stage, to include training records and proof of competency.

Please refer to the candidate application pack for further information.
