VACANCIES OPEN TO COMPETENT WHOLETIME FIRE FIGHTERS FROM OTHER LOCAL AUTHORITY FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICES ONLY

Firefighter Salary (Basic Annual): Competent £31,144

We are seeking applications from competent Wholetime Firefighters from other local authority Fire and Rescue Services who are interested in joining DWFRS Wholetime Duty System (WDS) at Firefighter level. 

There will be WDS Firefighter vacancies arising in the Swindon and Wiltshire area and it is our intention to fill these by DWFRS competent On-Call staff and competent Firefighters from other local authority Fire and Rescue Services.

It is expected these vacancies will be at the following stations*:

Salisbury, Swindon, Stratton, Chippenham, Trowbridge and Westlea.

All applicants will be required to commit to a minimum of three years’ service at the station they are recruited to. Transfer requests will not be accepted prior to three years’ service, unless at the request of DWFRS or via promotional opportunities to the individual.

Eligibility to apply

You are eligible to apply if you:  

  • Are a competent Wholetime Firefighter from a local authority Fire and Rescue Service. Applicants from Crew Manager level and above can apply; however, roles are available at Firefighter level only.

and you have:

  • a current full valid driving licence (Category B – manual car)
Recruitment Process

Please note that if you are successful at shortlisting you will be invited to attend the Technical Assessment stage on either the 3rd, 4th or 5th March 2020.  It is intended that interviews will be held week commencing 30th March 2020 at our Service Head Quarters, Five Rivers Health & Wellbeing Centre, Hulse Road, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP1 3NR.

For applicants who successfully pass all stages of the recruitment process you will be placed in a pool. We will then choose candidates from this pool for suitable Firefighter roles within DWFRS, this will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to:

  • Vacancy location (and if vacancy is at a Station from the candidate’s preferred list, which we will obtain later in the process)
  • Skill Requirements (Such as Emergency Response Driving)

It is anticipated that this pool will remain in place until completion of the next Wholetime Recruitment process. 

Any offer of employment will be subject to:
  • Successfully passing the Medical, which includes a hearing test and meeting our Fitness Test (Chester Treadmill Walk Test) - required to demonstrate a standard of 42 VO² max
  • Eyesight Test
  • References – including one from your current Fire and Rescue Service
  • Satisfactory evidence of competence, and maintenance of skills and courses, from current Fire and Rescue Service
  • Satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check - DBS Basic clearance will be undertaken
  • Right to Work in the UK
