Applications are invited from existing suitably experienced competent Crew Managers and Watch Managers who have completed the IFE level 3 Diploma (or higher level) Operations & Fire Safety. Business Safety qualifications and experience are particularly desirable.

To apply please click on the ‘Apply’ button and complete the online expressions of interest application form. You will be required to give a brief statement (maximum of 200 words for each of the 3 areas) on the following: 

  • What are your key achievements in a leadership role?
  • What challenges you have faced and what you have learned?
  • Why you feel you can make a positive difference to our communities and to our workforce?

Your response to these areas will not be scored but will act as a prompt for discussion at the interview stage.

The Selection Process will comprise of two stages:

Stage 1

External applicants will complete a separate application form which will be assessed. Successful applicants from this stage will be invited to attend stage 2.

Stage 2

Stage 2 will consist of an Assessment Centre to include an incident command assessment.

If you successfully complete the stage 2 selection process you will secure a permanent position within DSFRS as a Crew Manager and join a small cohort on the Pre-Promotion Development programme. On successful completion of the Pre-Promotion Development programme, you will be allocated a permanent post at Watch Manager B.

If you successfully complete the stage 2 selection process and you are already a competent Watch Manager with the following qualifications:

  • ILM Level 3 or equivalent
  • IOSH
  • ICS Level 1

You will secure a permanent Watch Manager B role within the DSFRS and join a small cohort to undertake a development programme.
