Wholetime Firefighters, Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service

We are seeking applications from the following groups who wish to apply to be Wholetime Firefighters at Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service:

  • On-Call Firefighters from within Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service who:
  • As of 31st January 2020 have successfully completed all elements of their Gateway 1 development pathway which includes practical and theory elements and whose folder has successfully passed the IQA process and,
  • Hold qualifications equivalent to 5 x GCSEs Grade C or above including English & Maths 
  • On-Call Firefighters from within Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service who are competent in post (no other qualifications required)
  • Substantive Wholetime Competent Firefighters from other Fire & Rescue Services (no other qualifications required)

Applications should be submitted by midnight on Sunday 23rd February 2020. Late applications will not be accepted.

Completed applications should be emailed to humanresources@fire.norfolk.gov.uk and must be in either Word or PDF format. Applications received in other formats will not be accepted. A Recruitment Monitoring Form must also accompany your application.

From this recruitment campaign we will be creating a pool of candidates from which we will be filling substantive wholetime Firefighter vacancies as they arise. This list will be live for 24 months. Gaining a place on this list does not guarantee the offer of a post.

Successful applicants could be appointed to any duty system currently operated by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, for example a day duty system or 9 day fortnight. Vacancies may arise at any of our wholetime Stations in Norwich, Kings Lynn, Great Yarmouth and Thetford as well as within our USAR team at Dereham.

There will be a further recruitment process run later in 2020 for Apprentice Firefighters to start in 2021. Any On-Call pre-Gateway 1 Firefighters will be able to apply through this second process, along with those with no fire service experience.

 Once the closing date is reached, the stages of the process will be as follows:
  • 17th / 18th March 2020 – Bleep Tests & Written Assessments
  • 15th / 16th / 17th April 2020 – Practical Assessments
  • 4th / 5th / 6th / 7th May 2020 - Interviews
