Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services independently inspects police forces and fire & rescue services in the public interest. The fire and rescue service portfolio team will focus upon the inspection of efficiency, effectiveness and leadership within fire and rescue services across England. They are independent of the Government, the Police Service and the Fire & Rescue Service.

As part of the national reform agenda for the fire and rescue service, the new combined inspectorate, HMICFRS has responsibility for inspecting the fire and rescue service across England. They will be developing a new programme of regular inspections of aspects of the fire and rescue service and will report to the public on each service’s effectiveness, efficiency and leadership. This programme of inspections has created HMICFRS as a new organisation in order to establish a fully integrated inspectorate for these blue light services.
