NFCC Wildfire Investigation Webinar

Tuesday 30th June (1.30pm- 4.30pm)

Already this year we have seen a large number of wildfires in the UK and we are only part way through a potentially devastating wildfire season. The need to better understand wildfire origin and cause has never been more pertinent.

Therefore NFCC will be running a webinar on Wildfire Investigation on 30th June (13.30 – 16.30 BST). During this webinar we will focus on wildfire investigation and discuss;

WHY do we need to investigate wildfires? Understand WHEN & WHERE they will start by using data. HOW do they start and what are the most likely ignition sources. WHO might be responsible for starting them and WHAT we can learn from this to assist with Wildfire prevention initiatives across UK FRS’s.

To answer all of the above we will draw upon our experienced speakers talking about their own personal experiences of devastating large wildfires, the important research that has taken place and how all of this enables us to learn from challenges, apply outcomes and research findings and shape both future prevention strategies and firefighting tactics.

Our confirmed Wildfire Investigation speakers are:

  • Rhodri Jones, Fire Investigation, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service – Chair of webinar – introduction and scene setting
  • Richard Woods from Wildfire Investigations and Analysis Pty. Ltd, Canberra, Australia, who will share his experiences as a practitioner and of the serious wildfires in Australia
  • Larry Canary, Technical Lead - Fire & Explosion, Envista Forensics, USA who will share his experience investigating wildfires from the private sectors perspective which includes his involvement with the California wildfires that tragically led to multiple fatalities.
  • Andy Elliot, a wildfire tactical advisor has carried out experimental research into probable causes of wildfire and fire behaviour and will share his findings
  • GM Dai Hancock, Head of business fire safety and fire investigator from Mid and West Wales FRS will share his research into socio-economic factors related to fire setting and discuss Operation Dawns Glaw which has had a positive impact on Wildfire prevention.

Audience –  this webinar is suitable for any stakeholder across the sector who could be affected by wildfire.

Booking for this webinar will open on Friday 12th June.
