'Fit for the Future' - partnership working to further develop the future for all FRSs

The National Fire Chiefs Council, the National Employers (England) and the Local Government Association are working in partnership to further develop a joint picture of the future for all fire and rescue services, based on their shared ambitions and entitled “Fit for the Future”.

A significant part of this work was a consultation process which ran during the latter part of 2020.

Following the feedback, it remains the firm aspiration of each of the partners to build on this work and to move Fit for the Future forward together. A summary paper is being sent to Chief Fire Officers and local political leaders that explains how the three parties are responding to the consultation findings and how the work will be progressed.

Going forward, starting in October, there will be a number of opportunities for senior managers and political leaders in fire and rescue services to collectively discuss the future role of services in a series of engagement workshops.

This represents a unique opportunity for those who are responsible for the service to have a say about the future and our joint ambition for the sector at a key point in time.

Details of the engagement workshops will be published as soon as they have been confirmed.

This will be an opportunity for fire and rescue services’ leaders and managers to join a discussion that will ensure we are genuinely able to make our fire and rescue services Fit for the Future.
