NFCC Chair expresses his deepest sympathy to the family of Anthony Knott

The Chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council has expressed his deepest sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of firefighter Anthony Knott.

Anthony went missing on December 20th and sadly, it has been confirmed that his body was discovered in the River Ouse in East Sussex earlier today.

NFCC Chair Roy Wilsher said: "My thoughts are with Anthony's families, friends and colleagues at this very sad time. Anthony was part of our fire family and his loss will be felt across the entire UK fire service. He was a valued member of London Fire Brigade and this devastating news will impact on those he worked with during his career.

"It goes without saying that help and support is available to all his colleagues at this time.

"While the cause of death has yet to be established, I would urge the media not to speculate to give his family time and space to come to terms with their loss. I would also like to pay tribute to - and thank - the public, firefighters and organisations who assisted in the search for Anthony."
